In the Health Triangle of Uva grows some of the best teas in the world.  The area’s climate explains the quality of the Tea grown there.  Tea Estate study     tours can be arranged.  A complete tour includes tea tasting, demonstration on how tea is manufactured and how Tea, Bio Tea etc.  is grown, and a guided visit to the Tamil Estate workers settlements, walks in the tea fields, perhaps even spending a night in an estate bungalow.

Accommodation in British colonial Bungalows can be arranged.



This journey , which covers 250 km cross country from sea level to over 6200   feet above sea level, passing through 47 tunnels, is rated as one of the great   rail experience in the world. Day and Night train services are available, some   with observation saloons and sleeping berths.





Trekking means walking in nature for days at a stretch. Some like roughing it out, others prefer shorter distances walked per day to modest but comfortable accommodation, both methods are possible with Orient hotel - Bandarawela, as the point of departure and return.  Treks can be adjusted to suit the individual, including children.  There are plenty of potential camping sites within the Uva Province.




This trek commences from Nayabedda Estate which is approx.. 06 km from Orient Hotel

Trek through Tea fields where you can observe the world famous Sri Lankan Tea Pluckers at work, to Liptons Seat whichis one of the most beautiful and breath taking scenic view points. Dambatenna Tea Garden where Liptons Seat is located was owned by Sir Thomas J. Lipton for a period of 40 years spanning  late 1800 to 1930, legend has it that he loved to entertain his guests at picnics, and also to contemplate the future on Liptons Seat which is at the summit of the plantation. Liptons Seat is perched perilously at the edge of a sheer descent of over 6000 feet and offers a 360 degree view. You will pass through some astonishingly beautiful scenery on this trek.

The trek is approx.. 16 km & takes 4 – 5 hours


This trek commences from Ohiya and passes through Tea Estates, scrub jungle and fragrant pine forests, the diversity of the terrain that this trek encompasses lends a definite zest to it. You will trek over tiny boulder strewn rivulets and you can see the tracks of wild boar. There are also plenty of monkeys to be seen as well as tiny cultivation plots hacked out of the jungle. There are also peach, pear and other fruit trees in profusion. The trek ends at Idalgashinna where you have the option of either taking a train ride back to Orient Hotel (the trek will have to be timed according to the train schedule) or having a vehicle pick you up from an accessible point.

This trek is approx.. 08 km & takes 2 – 2 ½ hours


This an ideal morning or late afternoon trek, which commences in close proximity to ORIENT HOTEL. You start out by visiting two Churches, both of which are over three quarter centuries old. This trek also encompasses villages, vegetable cultivations and passes over a meandering stream. You could watch the villagers at work in their fields and maybe, if it takes your fancy, you could join them in their work for a short time (with their permission of course).
